Update!!!!

Team Torque,

The new wrenches have come in!!! Come on, folks. Let's show a little excitement.

1) The sales team will be traveling with the wrenches to New York City for a convention at the Javits Center.

2) The fellas in shipping have received the molded foam to hold these new babies.

3) And speaking of babies, Mary Alice found out she's expecting a darling baby girl next month.

4) Also, there is a mysterious benefactor (or devil, depending on you're take on it) who has bestowed daily rations of Krispy Kreme donuts on our fair office. Hint: Kevin in shipping was seen hopping out of his grandma's adorable PT Cruiser with a mysterious box in his arms this morning!!!! :)

Thanks, guys!!

New Cost Saving Measure

Dear Traci,

As the associate who organizes a majority of the ever-more-frequent break room "get-togethers," I am sure you can imagine the hardship this causes for the flexible expenditures fund. As the analyst in charge of cost-containment, I can assure you it is substantial.

To rectify the situation, I am proposing a plan whereby get-togethers, while still being permitted (for now), would be paid for out of the pockets of the employees who choose to attend them. No disbursements will be granted. Requisitions for parties--be they for birthdays, engagements, babies, retirements, what-have-you--will be rejected. This is the only sensible solution for an activity that in no way benefits the company at large.

A second problem caused by the get-togethers is lost productivity, as employees tend to linger around the cake (going for "seconds," refilling soda cups, etc.). As part of a solution package rollout, we will institute a process whereby employees will "sign in" to the party, noting the time of their arrival, and then, following the party, will "sign out," again noting the time. The lost time will then be tabulated and added on to the employee's workday, giving them, in essence, a new "quitting time."

I already spoke to Mr. Foote about this, and he agreed verbally that the above is a sound strategy, thereby giving us the go-ahead. Please pass on the information about new cost saving strategies to the Sales and Operations Divisions. I want you to run with this.

(Incidentally, I have witnessed, first-hand, that the cake, chip, and soda portions consumed by the various employees is far from equitable--suggesting that you might consider instituting some type of weighted pricing strategy, as you collect funds for the supplies. [Employees should pay for what they use.] That is entirely up to you and is only a suggestion. I would, however, be happy to assist with this, by providing functional spreadsheets, etc, if you decide to go that route.)

Please try to get these measures rolling by C.O.B. today, Traci. I am very excited to begin this initiative; especially considering all of the benefits the company will reap in the short-term and down the road as well.

Together, we can uphold the core values of TorkRite Industries. Thank you.

solution package rollout

Folks,

Try to cut down on whole grain foods and liquids in general. That way we can save on toilet paper costs. Also, please wear shoes with no treads so the carpet dosent have to be replaced. Also, wear extra sweaters so we don't have to use so much heat. And in the summer, dress lite.

Re: New Cost Saving Measure

Traci,

In the week since I asked you to get rolling on the above cost saving measures, we have had nine (9) in-house get-togethers--all at the company's expense. This is unacceptable.

If your inaction signifies that you are taking the "it's-not-my-job" approach, you should be aware that there are far, far, far, far too many workers in the country today who share this attitude, thereby causing the trade deficit we see increasing with each passing year.

As i told you, this initiative was cleared verbally by Mr. Foote during our monthly outing at O'Hurlihey's. In his words, this proposal is a "good idea." Mr. Norton was also present. They will be looking very closely at the implementation of this on a performance-capability basis. I need to know if you are up to this. I feel that I have already gone beyond the call by not only proposing a means of tracking utilization of party materials, but also offering you the use of Marcy, in implementing a functional spreadsheet.

Do i need to have Marcy spearhead the entire project? Let me know and I will forward your reply to Mr. Foote and Mr. Norton.

Thank you.

Re: New Cost Saving Measure

Larry,

You are 100% right, as usual. I would like to give you a check to give to Jim covering the in-house get togethers. At your earliest convenience please come see me at my desk. I'll clear this whole thing up.

Re: New Cost Saving Measure

Traci,

We are not looking for quick fixes here. What we are talking about is full-scale systematic change in the way we finance non-necessary on-premises company events. Should this initiative succeed in its stated goals of measurable capital retention, regional heads will likely want to pilot the program in other areas of the branch. Assuming its success at that level, I believe that national company-wide implementation will soon be in the offing.

Traci, do you see the possibilities? If this program is successful across the TorkRite realm as a whole--and it fosters the continued savings that I envision--it is not unreasonable to believe that other companies across the U.S. will seek to emulate our model. And given the tendency for other leading nations to adopt trade practices of the leading economic power, it is likely that we will soon see this initiative as a de rigueur business method the world over.

Traci, I believe the day will eventually come when we, the people of this planet, will find ourselves in communication with intelligent life forms from other areas of the universe. (Unlike some, I do not believe it is unreasonable to not count out the existence of extraterrestrial beings.) Should those otherworldly beings, in time, consider it advantageous to conduct business with the people of earth, I do not think it is unrealistic to believe that they, too, would view this system as a prototype for attaining maximum expenditure restraint. Traci, it's in your hands. The only thing stopping us from a stronger company and a stronger future is our own unwillingness to change.

In the meantime, however, a check for $681.87 will be sufficient to cover the outlay for the first week of March.

Thank you.

Re: New Cost Saving Measure

Larry,

I would love to hear more about attaining maximum expenditure restraint. Would you be willing to have a private meeting regarding this fantastic idea? I am particularly intrigued by the possibility of helping other life forms.

Thanks,

Traci

Re: New Cost Saving Measure

Traci, this is excellent. I am pulling Marcy off this project. I will submit an Interdepartmental Requisition form to free you up from your current duties, so you can work on this full time. Marcy would only slow us down. She's off the project. I look forward to a fruitful partnership.

Together, we can work together!
